Graveyards Appeal

Skibbereen Heritage Centre is seeking help from those who have relatives buried at Aughadown and Drinagh old graveyards in advance of creating signage at these sites.

With the support of Cork County Council, Skibbereen Heritage Centre has already erected signs at three other graveyards in West Cork. The signs give information on those interred in these burial grounds alongside a brief history of each site.

Skibbereen Heritage Centre is seeking the help of the public to verify the accuracy of the information on the proposed Aughadown and Drinagh signs.

A group of local volunteers carried out a survey of 12 historic graveyards in West Cork some years ago. The results of this survey are online (click here) and a printed copy was also given to each of the parishes involved. The graveyard signs will be based on this information, mapping the location of each grave onsite.

Skibbereen Heritage Centre is asking those who have relatives buried at Aughadown and Drinagh old graveyards to check the online survey to check the accuracy of the information recorded there. If you have additional information on anyone buried at the site, or wish to have an entry corrected, please send us an email to info@skibbheritage.com or write to us at the Old Gasworks Building, Skibbereen before the end of November.
